Have you ever watched one of those TV shows where people are preparing for a future catastrophic event by stockpiling supplies and building underground bunkers? They aren’t that far off. The Bible actually tells us that we do need to be prepared for the end of the world.
In the fifth chapter of First Thessalonians, the apostle Paul wrote to believers: “You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief…So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober (vs. 2-4, 6).”
These words might scare us a little. After all, prepping for the end of the world seems like such a monumental task! The good news is that in Matthew 25, Jesus told a story to explain exactly how to be a successful prepper.
Jesus said that He will come back like this: A man went away on a long trip and divided some of his resources among three of his servants. The servants had no idea when he would come back, but the first two servants got to work investing what their master had entrusted to them. When the man did arrive back home, they were ready to show him what they had done on his behalf. The master was pleased with them!
For followers of Jesus, that’s all that we have to do. We get up every morning and faithfully invest the resources and talents that God has entrusted to us in the Kingdom of God. God takes our investment and turns it into spiritual fruit. When the end of the world comes for us, we will have something to give our Master and He will say to us, “Well done!”
And that’s how you prep for the end of the world.
