Holy Anticipation (Genesis 1)

Genesis 1

Welcome to 2021! What a welcome sight the turning of the calendar page was this year, wasn’t it?

Every year when I open my Bible once again to the first chapter of the first book of the Bible to read it all over again, a tingle goes up my spine because I know that I am about to read these words: “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters…” (Gen 1:2)

Can you envision what it was like to have the Spirit of God hovering over the surface of the waters? The hovering Spirit of God was holding back the chaos until the exact second when He would speak a word and bring about something completely new and perfect.

Imagine the electricity that must have been felt by every heavenly being as they held their collective breath and stood on tiptoe waiting with holy anticipation knowing that God was about to do something BIG.

Anything was possible at this point.

As you read through these scriptures, I wonder if you are also filled with holy anticipation at what God will do this year. Will He bring home that wayward child? Will He bring revival to your church and community? Is this the year a broken relationship will be restored? Is this the year that you see breakthroughs in the prayers that you have been praying for longer than you can remember? I hope so!

Anything is possible at this point because with God all things are possible.

This year, let’s be more intentional than ever in our eagerness to see what God is doing. Let’s open our Bible’s each day anticipating that God wants to show us more of His character every time. Let’s spend more time on our knees than ever before because we know that our God meets us there. Let’s view the world with wide open eyes actively looking for the ways that God wants to use us for His kingdom.

Anything is possible at this point.
