Every time I open my Bible to the first chapter of Genesis, a chill goes up my spine and I half expect a movie soundtrack to start playing a suspenseful orchestra piece.
The earth was formless, empty and dark. Sounds depressing, doesn’t it? But, “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (Genesis 1:2)
Something immense was about to happen and all Heaven could sense it.
Can you imagine the anticipation? Literally anything was possible at this point. Every heavenly being must have held their collective breath and stood on their tiptoes to not miss a bit of what God was about to do.
I wonder if Moses felt a tiny bit of this holy expectation when he stood between the Red Sea and the advancing Egyptian army? Or David when he was running for King Saul. Or Elijah on Mr. Carmel. Or Joshua before the Jordan River.
Over and over in scripture we see moments when people stood waiting expectantly for God to intervene in their circumstances in powerful ways and they have no choice but to truly believe that He was absolutely willing and able to do so.
Are you in a season of waiting on God? Why not wait with expectation, knowing full-well that His power, wisdom and creativity is beyond comprehension.
